Jeffrey H. Raines, an AV - rated attorney, concentrates his practice in the areas of:

  • Mediations and alternative dispute resolutions;
  • Civil litigation, including complex commercial litigation, products, environmental, and employment litigation, personal injury, toxic torts, and insurance claims and coverage litigation; and
  • General business and corporate law, including contract negotiations, commercial transactions, due diligence reviews, regulatory compliance, internal investigations, and preventative law counseling and advice.

Mr. Raines retired in 2008 from the law department of Ashland Inc. after twenty seven years, where he was associate general counsel and head of litigation. His legal experience with Ashland Inc. includes managing significant civil and commercial litigation throughout the United States, international arbitrations and alternative dispute resolutions, insurance claims and coverage litigation, compliance and preventative law counseling, contract negotiations and various commercial transactions, including mergers and acquisitions in the United States, Canada, Brazil, and Germany. Prior to joining Ashland Inc., he practiced law in Northern Kentucky and always planned to return to private practice there after his very enjoyable experience with Ashland Inc.

He earned his law degree from Salmon P. Chase College of Law of Northern Kentucky University in 1978, where he graduated first in his class and was the case note editor for the Salmon P. Chase Law Review and a member of the National Moot Court Team. He was the recipient of numerous scholastic awards, including highest grade awards in Contracts I, Property I, Sales and Secured Transactions, Family Law, Contracts II, Commercial Paper, and International Law.

Mr. Raines previously served as Chair of the Corporate House Counsel Section of the Kentucky Bar Association and on the Board of the Northern Kentucky University Foundation and the Board of the Children’s Law Center. He currently serves on the Board of Hospice of the Bluegrass and on the Board of Transitions, Inc. He lives in Union, Kentucky with his wife, Pat, who is retired from teaching at Saint Paul Elementary School in Florence, Kentucky.
